Porter is east, not west
The site has grouped Porter with The Woodlands, but 77365 is on the other side of Montgomery County. Porter sits along US 59/I-69 just north of Kingwood, near New Caney, and most of it is in New Caney ISD.
It is unincorporated and heavily wooded. Older homes sit on large lots along FM 1314 and the side roads, some of them manufactured homes, while subdivisions built since the 2000s have spread out from the freeway. The Grand Parkway now crosses the area, and retail has grown up around its interchange with I-69.
Humidity and the laundry room
Front-load washers are popular, and in a humid, wooded area they need more care than people expect. Water left in the door gasket and detergent residue in the dispenser lead to mildew smells, and drain pump filters clog with lint, hair and the odd sock. Most of the time that is a cleaning and a part, not a new machine. Leaving the door ajar between loads does more to prevent it than any cleaning product.
Top-loaders have their own common issue here: a lid switch or shifter that fails, leaving the washer filling but refusing to agitate or spin.
Homes on older lots may still be on wells. When ice makers produce cloudy or small cubes, or stop altogether, sediment in the water valve is a likely suspect.
