Appliance Repair in the Sixth Ward and Rice Military (77007)

77007 runs northwest of downtown between Buffalo Bayou and the rail lines, taking in the Old Sixth Ward, Rice Military, the Washington Avenue corridor and neighborhoods near Memorial Park. The Old Sixth Ward is one of Houston's oldest surviving residential neighborhoods, and many of its late nineteenth-century cottages are protected in a historic district.

Rice Military and the streets off Washington Avenue look very different. Since the late 1990s, much of the original small housing there has been replaced with three- and four-story townhomes.

Kitchens in the Sixth Ward cottages are small, and many have been added onto or moved within the house over the years. Appliances have to fit spaces not designed for them, and laundry is often in a back addition or a closet.

We measure before recommending a replacement, and we look at the gas and electrical connections when a fault could come from them rather than from the appliance itself.

Townhomes bring their own set of calls. Laundry is usually on the top floor, so a failed drain hose or pump can damage two ceilings. The dryer vent often runs a long way to the roof, and a slow dryer is more often a vent problem than a bad heating element.

Refrigerators and ranges in these townhomes are frequently original builder appliances, many now past their first decade. Getting a large refrigerator up or down several flights of stairs takes planning, and we check the path before anything is moved.
