Appliance Repair in Eastwood and Idylwood (77023)

The 77023 ZIP includes Eastwood, one of Houston's early twentieth-century suburbs with a large stock of bungalows, and Idylwood, a quieter neighborhood of 1930s and 1940s cottages under heavy tree cover near Mason Park and Brays Bayou. Lawndale and Wayside make up much of the rest.

Many of these houses have been bought and renovated in recent years. Others are still owned by long-time residents and have changed little.

Renovations here often put current appliances, sometimes counter-depth refrigerators, gas ranges and dishwashers where there were none, into kitchens that were framed a century ago. The results usually work, but the details cause problems: a dishwasher added under an old counter without a proper high loop on the drain, a range connected to an old gas stub, or a refrigerator water line run a long way through the crawlspace.

Laundry is commonly relocated in renovated houses, into a hall closet, a back porch or a new utility room. We see a lot of dryer vents that exit through the floor into the crawlspace rather than to the outside, which traps moisture and lint under the house.

In unrenovated homes, the appliances are older and simpler, and the conversation is usually about whether to repair or replace.

We work in Eastwood and Idylwood often, and same-day visits are frequently possible.
