Postwar streets along MLK
South Park grew up after World War II as a neighborhood of modest single-family homes south of what is now the 610 Loop, with Martin Luther King Boulevard running through its center. It is a long-established, largely Black community with many long-time homeowners.
The houses are mostly small brick and frame homes on regular city lots. Many were built with gas service, and gas ranges, gas water heaters and gas dryers are still common here.
