Acres Homes, south of Little York
The 77091 ZIP covers the southern half of Acres Homes, between Oak Forest to the south and West Little York to the north, around West Tidwell Road. Acres Homes got its name from the acre-sized lots it was sold in, and it grew into one of the largest African American communities in the South.
The land use still shows that origin. Lots are big, many streets have open ditches instead of curbs, and houses range from small older frame homes to brick houses and new construction built on long-held family land.
Acres Homes was outside Houston's city limits for much of its early history, and it still has more of a small-town layout than most neighborhoods this close to the Loop.
Every house is a little different
Because homes here were built one at a time rather than by a single developer, we do not assume a layout. Laundry may be in a back room, a carport or a separate building. Water heaters and gas lines are placed wherever made sense to whoever built the house.
That means a quick question or two on the phone helps: where is the appliance, and how do we get to it? A washer in a detached shed, for example, may need its drain and power checked before the machine itself.
Keeping older appliances running
Plenty of households in 77091 have appliances that have outlasted their expected life. We will fix them when it is sensible and say so honestly when it is not.
If you have more than one appliance acting up, mention them all when you book. On a large property it saves time to look at everything in one visit.
Every repair is covered by our 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty.
