Southeast Houston off the Gulf Freeway
The 77017 ZIP takes in Park Place and the Meadowbrook and Allendale neighborhoods, on the southeast side of Houston between the Gulf Freeway and Pasadena. Park Place is one of the older suburbs in this part of the city, and much of the rest of the ZIP filled in during the postwar years, close to the refineries and plants along the Ship Channel where many residents worked.
The housing is mostly modest single-family homes, a mix of wood-frame houses and later brick ranch homes, with small apartment buildings along the main roads.
Long-held homes, long-serving appliances
Many households here have been in the same house a long time, and that tends to show in the kitchen. It is common to find a gas range or a top-load washer that has been running for well over a decade next to a much newer refrigerator.
Older, simpler machines are often very repairable. A worn washer drive component, a failed bake igniter or a thermostat on an older refrigerator can usually be replaced without much difficulty, and we will say so when that is the sensible choice.
Laundry is frequently in the garage or a back utility room. Garage installations deal with heat and dust through the summer, and we check lint buildup and vent condition on every dryer call.
