Along the bayou west of the Beltway
77079 extends west of Beltway 8 along Memorial Drive and the Katy Freeway, with Buffalo Bayou and the Terry Hershey Park trails running through it. Energy company offices line the freeway, and most of the ZIP behind them is established residential neighborhoods.
Most of the houses were built in the 1960s and 1970s on wooded lots. Many have been expanded or remodeled, and a smaller number have been rebuilt from the ground up.
What 2017 changed
When the Army Corps of Engineers released water from Addicks and Barker reservoirs after Hurricane Harvey, Buffalo Bayou rose and stayed high, and houses in several neighborhoods near the bayou flooded for days.
The houses that were gutted and rebuilt got new kitchens and laundry equipment all at once. Some owners also moved washers and dryers from a garage or ground-floor room to a higher level, which usually means a longer dryer vent and a drain line that is harder to reach.
Remodeled kitchens in older houses
Houses that did not flood tend to have kitchens remodeled at different times, often with a gas cooktop, a separate wall oven and a built-in microwave. A remodeled kitchen in a 1960s house can still depend on older circuits, so we check that when the symptoms suggest it.
Every repair carries our 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty.
